i've done all the routine troubleshooting, including diskworrier.  
unless i can locate some private var plist, and/or the colorpicker  
itself i'm going to have to reinstall. i have a working picker on my  
laptop to copy from. i wasn't aware how often i use the thing within  
other apps until it went south. the only recent install was security  
update, which shouldn't have bothered the colorpicker but who knows.  
i'm backed up and ready to go :) best...jf
