I did a <quit iCal >after each of those trials , but not a total  
system restart, but the changes did not take place immediately as  
changes do in the regular date- time and clock changes that change as  
you click. I had to quit iCal and then by relaunching it, those odd  
changes appeared.

  Another way now to waste my time, just because of my "wanting to  
know it all" virtue/vice.
Thanks for helping me out, at least for helping me to not put all my  
computers on tigger, he seems a bit on the wild side like Christopher  
Robin's tigger toy.
