Greetings to all who chimed in!
First of all, let me say I feel a total idiot! In my last-ditch attempt
before throwing in the towel completely, I found I'd initially misread some
of your instructions, Jerry F, and when I went back through them, I found I
was able to trash the offending files, as well as Internet Explorer. I was
only able to do this once I'd moved them from the desktop to the hard drive
(no clue why it would work in one spot but not the other, these things
remain a mystery to me, and I'm resigned to that/I've accepted it, so long
as it's an issue I can work around)...And, although I couldn't figure out
where to enter the * that Jerry Y suggested to turn off super-user, I did
manage to arrive at the solution differently...Phew, sure couldn't have done
it without all your input, and it is much appreciated! Now I'm just hoping
I didn't mess things up too badly in the Terminal...Thanks again your all
your time and expertise, one & all!
