I received this email from my brother-in-law. Can anyone help him with
his Outlook Express problem?

When you reply, please reply to all so Mark will get a copy.

Thanks.

Harry

I don't know how this happened but:

An upgrade for Outlook Express was installed (OS9). The identities
folder( has existing mail, address
book, etc.) from the previous version was placed in the correct spot,
Microsoft User data folder, located
in the documents folder on the hard drive. The upgraded version is
supposed to automatically see the
older files and use them. This worked the first time I opened up the program.
Thinking all was well, I trashed the previous version of outlook
express.
The next time I opened Outlook express, it did not have any of my
addresses, mail, or anything. I could
tell by previous color coding (label blue), a new "data base" file, new
"data base cache" file, and new
"messages file" had been created, or at least the color coding was gone
(icon now white). These new
files still have lots of data in them, but show a creation date of 24
hours ago.
I have learned that the messages file (mine still shows to be over 1.25
GB) is hopelessly intertwined
and dependent on the database file (35 mb).
My messages and contacts are still in there somewhere. Anyone ever done
this before? Can they be
recovered. Unfortunately there is no longer any backups of the previous
files. Help!
