Click on the desktop or use some other way to get to the finder. Choose 
the 'Show View Options'. One of the checkboxes will be for 'Show item 
info' Turn this off will make it go away (or turning it one will make 
it appear). It may be a default setting after the update or you may 
have somehow turned it on and not noticed that you did. I have had this 
turned on for quite some time, so I did not notice it turning on after 
the update.
