Well, the easy way to handle this is to use the Color Label for each
item within the folder. The color label will "highlight" the previously
black text, and make it stand out, even on a black background.
Here is an example of how this looks on a black background.

So this just hit me today. I can change my finder background to black.
I like the look of back backgrounds. I've had my iPhoto background set
to black for some time.
Can I change the finder text to white?
