Subject: [MacGroup] Display or not display, that is the question

I just bought a MacBook to replace my Mac Mini at the office. I use it
with
a larger monitor and external keyboard and trackball, and they work
fine.
Of course, when I close the MacBook, it goes to sleep and the monitor
screen
goes dark. How do I use it this way and be able to shut the MacBook all
the
way? In Energy Saver, I set it to never sleep, but that didn't help--I
guess the lid closure overrides that setting.

Thanks,

Robert
