if you are a single user, and do not wish a separate username account, then
you are admin. if you click the lock on accts pref pane, enter the admin
password, then you can change the username for admin in the dialog box to
the right. you do not delete admin. i have only one user on my box
username/admin.

use 'login options' to set your login preferences. on a laptop i would
choose a required login option and logout as necessary for security. that
would necessitate an install disk to access the hd contents, though lots of
people carry the install disk with them. convenient :)

best practice says to create a user account and work from that account, but
i have never followed his advice.

you can create a root account by booting from the install disk, then select
enable root from the menu bar in the intial install window. assign root
password then logout/login as root. i see no merit for your situation, i
think you just want to rename admin. best...jf
