Hi Harry,

Assuming your friend has a Mac:

Firefox has a free extension called "Download helper." It downloads and converts YouTube files into Flash files that you can play on your computer. Once downloaded, rename the file to .flv  I've used this one with great success. However, I didn't need to convert the files further for Powerpoint.

Here's the link:
http://www.downloadhelper.net/

QuickTime Pro can convert flv files to mov, mpg, avi, etc. to use in PowerPoint, or they say you can use free http://vixy.net to do the conversion.

Also, see this page for a great deal more information about Saving Videos from YouTube for Macs and PCs:
http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/tutorials/youtuberip//

Last, I copied this off macrumors.com:

"You can also install Perian (http://perian.org/), so that flv movies would work
in QuickTime Player, and then use MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/)
to convert them to mov, avi, mp4."

Other software includes:

If your friend has a PC:

These YouTube videos explain the process very well for PCs:

Hope this helps,
Jane

Harry,

I used a clip from the internet for a presentation using Keynote. I
used SnapZ Pro and made a movie of the clip as I watched it then
imported the clip into Keynote. Worked great.

A Spanish teacher friend of mine wants to create a powerpoint lesson
with latin music videos he's found on YouTube.

Is there a way to save these videos to one's hard drive?

I tried control clicking on a video, to no avail.

TIA

Harry
