Harry,

First of all you are YOUNG, I had my 45 sometime in the past.  I also  
did what you are doing, scanned in every picture and then moved them  
to my iPod so when I went to the party I could look people up.    
There are NO dots on mine while viewed in iPhoto unless you zoom in  
to eyeball closeness.  I am using an Epson 4990 Photo scanner with  
the Epson software.  I scanned at 300 dpi.   I don't know if my  
results are different due to the scanner, the quality in the yearbook  
or dumb luck.
