I would make sure to get the better video card and as big a hard drive
and you can get.
Video cards can cause all kinds of strange things to occur to a
computer.

I don't look for new machines till after the school promo is off. Going
by pass Apple practices.

Subject: [MacGroup] eternal dilemma

on the verge of purchasing a MBP, and trying to decide on what model
to get.
Budget for new machine is around $2100. I've already got 4GB of RAM to
drop into whatever I get.

Current low end for $1799, or refurb mid-level model for $1999, or
wait for possible new machines.
I don't *need* a new one now, but would *like* to have one before grad
classes start in a week.

pro's for each (for me):
entry level = new, could get free iPod Touch with rebate (but we're
getting iPhones in Dec/Jan so I would just try and sell it)

mid level refurb = slightly faster processor, larger HDD, and 512mb
video card, larger front side bus -- overall, hopefully a longer
lifespan for the machine

wait for new model = only thing that would really matter to me would
be to have a user replaceable HDD. anything else would be fluff (nice
fluff, but fluff)

any suggestions?

rick
