It sounds as if you safari cache has been cleared.
A web browser looks thru the cache to get a web address based on
entering text into the address bar. I use the bookmark bar to create
buttons for websites that I go to regularly. Click button and go. If you
are using a maintenance utility it could have done such a deed.

Subject: [MacGroup] dns annoyances

Hey Folks,

Up until yesterday, when I went into Safari and typed 'stata/meeting'
into the address bar, Safari would nicely expand this to
http://www.stata.com/meeting
after seeing that stata/meeting didn't go anywhere.

Today, when I type stata/meeting in, I get an annoying search page from
my ISP, which looks to be a 'service' which does nothing for me.
(This isn't an ISP local to Louisville, so the usual suspects don't
apply.) Same thing when typing 'shoecarnival', even though this should
resolve to www.shoecarnival.com.

I tried typing in the dns numbers for OpenDNS, and found that now
something like 'shoecarnival' blinks the start of the OpenDNS page, but
then goes to www.shoecarnival.com, but stata/meeting now goes to a
'helpful' search page at OpenDNS.

How do I get the usual behavior of Safari back, so that I don't forever
get dragged to worthless services whose point is to advertise?
Is this an unavoidable 'upgrade' from my provider, which will likely be
seen as a 'service enhancement' warranting a price increase for 'value
added'?

Bill
pissed, but possibly being stupid
