Numbers should be able to open your Excel export. We have the most idiotically designed and bloated spreadsheets on the planet and all the ones I've tried have opened fine. These are ones with multiple tabs, excessively bloated pages, not too many operands, but lots of connected cells and other crap.
Oh, did I say that out loud? I started out with MS Works then moved to Claris Works then Apple Works. I liked the suite idea of programs, but with the new Macs' speed and RAM, opening several apps ceased to be a problem. Especially when they communicate with each other so well. Especially Mail, iCal, Address Book, Pages, Keynote & it's online twin iWeb, Numbers and iPhoto. Hey! I just named the iLife & iWork packages...hmmm.
