To John Stone, Bill Holt, Ed Wiser and Jim Bennett.

Thank you all for the good advice about installing Leopard and the
possible conflicts with some applications I frequently use. I really
do appreciate the advice.

I have an empty hard drive, and I plan to back up all my files and
the old applications before I start the conversion. Bill offered to
furnish me with a Filemaker FMP 8.5 if mine quits working, and I
might have to take him up on the offer; we’ll see. Ed tells me I
might need a new Photoshop CS5, and if I do, I just bite the bullet
and buy one. I noticed that I have an Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0
that came with a new scanner that I have never used, and I might try
that first.

I guess I owe all you guys a beer.

Well Neal you would have to buy a full version of Photoshop as
Photoshop 7 there is no longer a upgrade from 7 as of Photoshop CS4.
Adobe has said they are dropping off upgrades starting with CS3. So
now they have a forced upgrade path. Next up is Photoshop CS so when
CS5 comes out those with CS will have to upgrade or lose the ability
to do so without purchasing the full version.

I always keep up to date as I find the learning curve is smaller.
I had trouble updating my father in laws iMac G5 17" to Leopard and
just gave up on it after a week of trying. He doesn't need it and
mainly uses Mail. So I just kept it simple.

I need some advice, and I hope someone reading this can help.

Presently I am running a Mac G5 on system 10. 4. 6.
I thought I would like to try Leopard, and I purchased the new
application,
version 10.5.6. The problem is, I now have cold feet, so it is not
yet installed.

Frankly, I am worried about compatibility between Leopard and some of
my applications, as follows:

Microsoft Office 2004
Abode Photoshop 7
Filemaker Pro 6F
VectorWorks 11

To replace Photoshop alone would cost a bundle, and it is the oldest
one of the four. I have installation discs for all of the above, but
will they work with the new system?

Also, can I back up my present system 10.4.6 on a DVD so that I can
re-install it if I do not like Leopard? How do I do that?
