A while back there was some discussion on this list about Apple slowly phasing out firewire connectivity. What are they thinking.
In the process of upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5 I intended to use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer files to my Maxtor 160 gb (7200 RPM) USB hard drive, then zero out my internal hard drive in order to do away with the two partitions and have only one. I was then going to use ccc to copy everything back to my internal hard drive and install 10.5. Well using disk utility it was going to take more than 24 hours to zero out the USB drive. I then zeroed out a 120 GB FireWire drive and it took less than an hour. What is Apple thinking? Why would they give up the speed of FireWire for the slowmotion of USB? It makes no sense. BTW, 10.5 is up and running and so far, I like it!
