Thanks, why I asked is that sometimes you can do 'delete' ( we are
talking from the trash box) and then you can do 'delete forever'. So I
always think that just deleting does not mean 'Forever'.
And the iPhone is another matter. There my delete and trash boxes
abound ---but I will let the Apple geniuses ( if there are any anymore
at all) ponder those confusions. I did pay them for the one on one
meetings. While they do supply me with a chair for my height and all
the other conveniences, they still haven't managed to also bring me my
cup of coffee, necessary for my brain to absorb anything worthwhile.

for a while and could be recovered with a special file recovery

Mail's Trash folder, it's gone just like any other file in the main
system's trash can once it's "emptied."

I have my mail set to go into trash when I delete it . ( my
computer isn't always faithful and stuff ends up in other delete
folders), but that is a topic for another time.
What happens, though, when i delete items from the trash? Where do
they go? They just don't disintegrate, do they? I guess for that to
happen i would have to click 'cut' or 'delete forever' it it were
available.
But then, where do all these thousands of messages I have deleted
from the trash in the course of time, where do they live on?
