My experience is mixed. Sometimes they have the product in store
while the announcements are made and they start selling them that
day. But mostly you would have to pre-order it or wait in line a few
days to a few weeks later.
From my reading of the rumor sites, it looks like the Nano, iPod, and
Touch will be updated and get cameras. Usually the New iPods are
released in September to get ready for Christmas. A iTunes update
looks likely. Rumors are flying about ringtones, movie rentals, HD
support. Those sound likely, but not worth a whole event. Rumors
about a tablet or netbook are flying, but since the theme is rock and
roll, I doubt they will be released at this event.
As far as pre-orders: I've always got them on the release date if I
ordered them to be delivered then. I've never waited in line at the
store. I hate lines and crowds. Something left over from living in
Europe.
Hope that helps Stewart! Take care.

Well, I did it, I sold my iPod touch. While I was thinking of
getting an iPhone, I think I will wait to see what all the fuss is
about with the Sept 9th event when the new iPods will be out
(including the new Touch).
For those in the know, what is typical... when these products are
announced on Wednesday the 9th are they in stores same day, next
day, or later? I am assuming the Apple store will be busy!
