I would rather have 2 x 1gb than 1 x 2gb. Often cheaper and always more
flexible.
Regardless of drive RPM, it takes a while to back up 1tb. I do it at nite
while I sleep.
I expect slower drives would be slitely more reliable.

WD makes different grades. I seldom see their top of the line "enterprise"
grade HDDs. Black is the top grade seen in ads. Blue is a step down. Green
is 5400 RPM, runs cooler and slower. Refurbs cost significantly less, but
have much shorter warranties. Of course, the cost of the drive is the least
of your worries, should one die.

WD enclosed drives (My Book, etc) include some nice features, but do not say
which grade of HDD is within.

I have seen =< $33 boxes onto (not "into") which one can push a HDD (or two,
depending on the model). With the box, you can use "bare" drives instead of
enclosed drives, and to hot swap them without fighting with an enclosure.
Since bare drives run about $30 cheaper than enclosed drives, I'm tempted.

NewEgg's business plan is to provide all the mfgr's literature on line, and
to offer NO advice, to neither recommend nor advise about products or
compatibility, all of which cuts labor costs. If you know what you want,
their prices are usually low. The consumers persons to rate products, both
in prose and with stars.

I recently bought a bare 640gb HDD for $50, inc p&h.
