If your MBP is a unibody style, then supposedly the 12.5mm drives will fit inside of it, even though the stock drives are a little shorter in height. There are a few 2.5 inch 1TB drives out there now. I'm out of town on business right now, but I've actually got a 1TB Toshiba external drive waiting for me at home that I ordered for ~ $100. When I get back, I'm going to take the drive out of the external, and put it in this mid-2009 MBP (along with 8GB of RAM). I'll then take the 500GB drive that's in this machine right now, and put it in the toshiba external enclosure and use it as an Aperture backup drive.
