Folks, Both myself and the Apple Genius bar guy learned something today about the iPad, thought some of you may want to know in case you run into this.
When I plug the iPad into the computer to sync it & get software updates I get the warning that it is NOT CHARGING. It will do the sync but not charge, for that I have to use the AC adapter. I thought I had a problem with the iPad so after two long days of ownership I took it back to the Apple store. The Genius guy plugged it into his NEW laptop and it began to charge! Always happens that way! He then plugged it into a 21" iMac right in front of us and it would NOT charge. I have the 21" iMac and it wouldn't charge the iPad, nor will my 15" MacBook Pro that is a couple years old. He was baffled so he went in the back room and plugged it into a 24" iMac that was new and it would charge. The bottom line is this. The newer laptops and iMac's have the juice to charge the iPad but many of the older models (by old I mean a year or so) will not. He was unaware as were the guys in the back room doing the work. He did a search and found, sure enough the iPad requires the newer machines to charge. So, I will sync with the computer and then unplug and use the AC to charge. Once I replace this computer with a newer one the problem will go away. Also, I sometimes forward an item from our list to my programmer in Cincinnati and he will reply to me but it goes back to the list serve. I apologize, I do it so infrequently that I forget I need to copy and paste to keep you all from being involved in our problem solving.
