I would recommend using GoodReader on the iPad/Iphone as a PDF/text/Word 
reader. It's very versatile and allows you to transfer files via your MobileMe 
or iDisk "cloud" storage. I have recently begun using Dropbox as an easy way to 
transfer files between devices.
