Happy Thanksgiving from me, too.
I learned something, again. I never knew where actually I would find my airport if I needed to look it up. So, now I know. Not, that I would know what to do in an emergency ; there I would hope to get your all's assistance.

Under Network Preferences, clicking on "Airport" using the tab TCP/ IP there is a button "Renew DHCP Lease", would this do the same thing as leaving it unplugged all night, or is the reset needed with the modem rather than the Airport Router?

Renewing the lease might not help, if something is messed up internally on the router. Usually all this does is notify the DHCP server that "I'm still here so you can set the lease timer back to zero." I don’t think it usually renegotiates the parameters.
