That's not much free memory, but you should also check hard drive space. If your hard drive is almost full, then the operating system can't page RAM contents out to free up a few megabytes. The combination of the two being nearly full can be a killer--slowing your machine down and causing all sorts of niggling problems. It can also cause not so niggling freeze-ups and crashes.
