Ed, I don't compress either, BUT I do have concern about encryption. Point in case. I have several G-Technologies firewire drives they have been great but they did make a batch of bad ones and I have had three replaced. It has taken everything in me to send the bad drives for with TimeMachine backed up on these drives now everything about me is in the hands of others. If the drives were not over $300.00 and new I would have just eaten it.
I know Retrospect allows encrypted backups, but in looking at this software it seems a little daunting but I am just going to have to take the time to learn it for I can't stand the idea of sending all my financial records, brokerage accounts, correspondences, photo's, emails, EVERYTHING to someone that could decide to take a look.
