Folks,

My wife and I will celebrate our 50 yr. high school class reunion next year
(yes we are past the "youth" age). I am drafted to put on the video production
and while most put on slide shows but we Mac guys don't settle for that.

Years ago the hometown we are from was featured on the Walter Cronkite show "
You Were An Eye Witness". Now this was back in the 1960's and the technology
was less than stellar. Somehow the movie was converted to VHS tape and through
a large search I found an upperclassman that had a copy of all the tapes. CBS
did a followup 30 years later and produced another program and I have both.
The tapes arrived and as I had two OLD VHS players I felt the problems were
most likely with those old machines so I ordered a new one.

Even with the new one the tapes have repeated "blackouts", over and over to the
point if I can convert them to digital the editing will make the final result
almost unusable. What a shame.

In the past there has been mention of professional firms that work with these
and I would like to see if they have better equipment or more elaborate ways of
recovering these. If you have had any experience with such firms I sure would
appreciate you sending their name my way. It would be a shame to have this
lost as it is a window on our past, and that will be the theme of the movie I
am trying to put together......."A Journey Of Memories".

Many thanks,

John
