Nora,

A slow-running computer can also be caused by RAM being maxed out, or even by a 
hard drive that has some corruption or is going bad. Did you run Disk Utility 
(Verify and/or Repair) on the drive? In any case, I would be sure I had a good 
backup. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
