Jane,

Another opinion.

Nobody beats Insight. U-verse is slower because it's DSL. It may be fast enough
for you, but for similar pricing I prefer faster. I don't know how Dish
delivers their internet these days, but when I had them their internet was
abysmal and I never considered it. If they do not deliver their internet over a
wire or cable, throw it back. If they are partnering with AT&T to deliver the
internet then you are even worse off than just having AT&T because the "phone
company" does not give their best service to their competitors. They are
required to sub-lease their lines to competitors by law, but they do not go out
of their way to make anyone happy about it.

Insight gives me great phone, TV and really fast internet and I have always had
good service from them when I needed it. Others have had different experiences.
Sorry about yours. Have you called them and asked to escalate your issues to a
supervisor?

Oh, and you're right: they charge more for their service because they can.
Their internet is way faster than any of their competitors.

That said, you can negotiate a better rate. Call their customer service and say
you're considering switching to U-Verse and want to give them one last shot. If
they don't take the hint ask to speak to "Retention." Tell them you do not want
less service, but you want to PAY less. They will work with you and give you a
better price. I heard about that technique and tried it successfully. If you've
been getting bad service out of them then you have even better reason to ask
for a break.

I do not work for Insight, but I hear grumblings about them all the time. A
little perspective: If you want really bad customer service, go ahead and
switch to AT&T!

Dish is a different story. When I had them years ago, the TV and service were
great, but I was paying a lot more for TV than I do now with Insight. They are
a good company hobbled by the difficulty of delivering high speed internet when
they don't own wires into the homes (Well, other than the ones coming off their
really ugly antennas).

I honestly can't see any real competitor to Insight for the all-in-one
approach. Unless Time-Warner messes it up. We'll see, I guess.
