I need help with my G5 memory configuration: I have a G5 with 5 Gigs of memory in it.
It is the 2.5 Ghz with the 8 gig configuration. Looking at the memory banks from the front of the machine with it lying on its side the memory is installed as follows all are 3200, 400 dimms. Left side is: 512, 512, 512 and 1 gig. On the right side is just the opposite: 1gig, 512, 512, and 512. Both 1 gig dimms are facing each other in the middle on opposite banks. But in system profiler they show up as the following: Dimm0/J111gig Dimm1/j121gig Dimm2/j13512 Dimm3/j14512 Dimm4/j41512 Dimm5/j42512 Dimm6/j43512 Dimm7/j44512 For it to be a faster machine it seems slower than the G4s and one of them is a DP 867 with less memory only 1.5. It says to install the memory in pairs but I can not afford to get 1 gig dimms at the present time. Should I reconfigure it another way? With the 1 gig Dimms on opposite banks why do they show up as Dimm 0 and 1 and J11 and J12? Any help appreciated! In the meantime I will go back and read up on it again. Thanks Steve Brown
