I will now set myself up for a major jinx, but I've never gotten Applecare on 
any of the 8 or 9 macs that I've ever bought., and I've been well-served by it 
as none have ever broken until they were quite old. It's an insurance policy 
(like all extended warranties), so it is probably worth $0.50 on the dollar 
(like insurance policies) to the buyer. So...if you can afford to self-insure, 
you should avoid it. You do get the equivalent of Applecare for an initial time 
period (a year?), and you can extend it as the default warranty is running out. 
If anything you should put off the decision.
