It depends on what you want to do. I never use a built in FTP client. They are
always an afterthought to the development team. Having been on many, many
beta's of software this is an area that never receives any work to make better.
I use several different web development tools on a single site so I always
access the folder and never use a closed folder to develop a site just a work
flow issue for me I use the best tool for the task approach.:)

Ed,

Thanks, I know about this. If I am going to export the site then I may as well
just use the built in ftp because it will take just as long.

Bill thanks. I am aware of FTP and what it does. Before I started using sandvox
I used fetch to upload web pages. I still have it on my computer and it is an
SFTP program.

I am hoping Ed will be able to help me use Transmit or Fetch to upload my
websites outside of the Sandvox Application.

Thanks for your input.

Harry

And since that last comment was completely over my head, I found this
explanation that I wanted to share...

"You may or may not have heard the term, FTP
[def.]<http://personalweb.about.com/cs/glossary/g/ftp.htm>, but it is something
that can come in handy when creating a Web site. FTP is an acronym that stands
for File Transfer Protocol. An FTP client is a program that allows you to
easily move files from one computer to another.

In the case of creating a Web site, this means that if you create the pages for
your site on your computer, either using a text editor or some other Web page
editor, then you will need to move it to the server where your site will be
hosted. FTP is the main way to do this.

There are many different FTP
clients<http://personalweb.about.com/od/ftpfileuploadprograms/> that you can
download from the Internet. Some of these can be downloaded for
free<http://personalweb.about.com/library/weekly/aa111300b.htm> and others on a
try before you buy basis."

That should not be the reason it uploads slowly.
I have found that the FTP programs in Web creation tools are always bad and
troublesome.
I use Dreamweaver and people complain all the time about the same issues you
are complaining about slowness.

Transmit is done in seconds all the time. I update webpages daily and hate
waiting for uploads.

Never use the FTP of a Web creation tool they are junk.

I use a website creation program called Sandvox. It uploads the files
automatically. The one that takes so long has lots of pages and photos and
interconnections and everytime I add something because things are
interconnected it has to upload the whole shebang!

Harry what are you using to upload your web pages with.
I use http://panic.com/transmit/
You can sync you website folder and just
change the parts of the page that have
been changed. This cuts way down on
the time it takes to upload a page. It's the
best.

So what I found out is "all things are not equal."

Do you think users will ever demand symmetry in their internet connections?
While the download speed is admirable with Uverse I would really like more
upload speed. I have a couple of web pages that take forever to upload.

Thanks Ed.
