Yes it is politics. I read Patterson's book. There isn't much exploration of the fact that oversight of the institutions was greatly deemphasized during the early years of this century, or the affect of mega-mergers on the consolidation of risk, or the gutting of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999, or ... Let's not drive this list into a deep and dark rabbit hole.
