I don't quite believe what I am about to tell you about how I solved the problem I wrote about below, but here goes.
I decided that the document files were not corrupted because they are all in the cloud and I don't have similar problems on my other machines. So I downloaded AppCleaner and deleted Neo Office from my computer. Then I downloaded and installed Neo Office. The same things were happening. I also have Spell Catcher installed on my program. In spell catcher I set up a shortcut for my email address. I opened a Neo Office text document and started typing, (ignoring the sounds the program was making as I typed) and when I typed one of my short cuts it didn’t work. I went to SpellCatcher and learned I had to download and insert the license code (even though I had set up the computer from my time machine backup). Once I did that the problem in Neo Office went away. I don't understand the connection between the two programs but there you have it. Oh, by the way, the Spell Catcher shortcuts don’t work properly in Neo Office but that’s another issue. Anyway, thanks for responding Lee.
