Seldom do I post “downer” messages, I like to extol the good things about Apple
and ask for help from this group, but I just got off the phone, molar dust is
so thick I am having a hard time seeing the screen.

I had a drive go bad on a Mini, ordered an SSD drive that Jonathan Fletcher so
SO graciously helped me install yesterday…he is a jewell.

Used TimeMachine to completely restore the drive and it was like I hadn’t
missed a beat, as always it worked great….until I tried to start Excel.

I was ask for the activation Key, which when I entered it stated it had been
activated more than the allotted, well yes, I had a bad drive!

I was given a number to call and a series of 9 individual nodes, each congaing
6 numbers. I had to read this to their machine, then it ask me how many
computers had this been installed on, I answered 3 as that is the number
allowed…the machine hung up on me.

I then logged onto Microsoft and dug around to where I could finally find
someway to talk to a live person…nope, I had to create an account and verify
the account from an email they sent to THEN find they would call me within 24
hrs…..what? I most likely would not be in front of the computer when they
called, this was NUTS.

I did a search and found another number I could call, finally did get to talk
to Amber, she listened to my story and said I needed to talk to the Mac people,
so she transferred me and eventually Brad picked up the phone…listened to my
story and said I needed to talk to the ACTIVATION people and he transferred me.
After a very long wait I reached Richard and he wanted me to read the series
of numbers to him that I had read to the machine.

He left and then came back with a series of 8 nodes of 6 numbers I had to type
into the boxes below the numbers I had been given.

Finally, 35:02 seconds later I was off the phone with a product I could use.
Total time wasted on such a simple thing, maybe 3, possibly longer as I had
tried to do this last night and realized I would do better trying in the
morning…..

Is there any wonder that folks who change to Apple would NEVER go back to this
unbelievable world of Microsoft. I am beginning to learn a database and
should I accomplish this I will not need Microsoft for anything, Excel will go
to the woodshed and I’ll ignore this company completely……just had to get this
off my chest, it’s unbelievable that people will tolerate this, I guess it’s
because they have no idea there is a much better way.
