My reasons for using Dropbox and Google Drive are:

(1) They’ve been around a lot longer than iCloud.

(2) They work on both Linux and OS X, making my stuff portable.

(3) They work on older versions of OS X, so my older iMac works with them. You
pretty much need Yosemite to use iCloud.

(4) Google Drive and Dropbox update a lot faster on local drives — especially
Dropbox. I’ve many times saved something to Dropbox on my laptop and within
seconds I see it has been updated on the mini. It’s even better with Yosemite
because Apple has opened up some APIs in OS X to support such services; e.g.,
look for the green check marks to see which files are up to date.

(5) I’ll wait for a while before I start trusting iCloud Drive. Apple has a
dismal track record with Web services, and I’ve been burned several times
before. Some of us might remember iDisk from the MobileMe days — shudder …
