My Fellow Geeks! The beginning of a three day holiday, some will party, other of us never get a day off, the grist mill never shuts down….whichever camp it’s always good to have a smidgen of a “Thriller” to kick this thing off…
Seems the rumors have it that the Apple's World Wide developers conference in early June will introduce “Rootless”, sounds like something your dentist would discuss with you, but it’s going to be yet another nail in the hacker’s coffin…Apple continues to strive to make security their top priority and as we spend more of our time on line, use our Apple devices for financial transactions this should be the number one priority. Next, IBM has jumped on board to developed a few business Apps for the Apple Watch. At this point functionality is in it’s infancy but within a short time the Watch will become very important in simplifying our lives. I even read a story that Apple has developed a way to use the Watch WITHOUT it being linked to the iPhone…that will help. Finally a discussion why Apple has most of the aces in it’s deck. this makes so much sense and will improve as each of these division are united under one roof, allowing us to move from our business lives, health issues, home automation, music and video control, communication between family and associates all within the shell of one company, eliminating the need for understand software from many vendors…this also gives us protection from a plethora of firms each having access to our accounts…. Exciting times indeed.. Have a marvelous and safe weekend. For Now My Fellow Travelers, I Am Out Of Here! Daddy Mac It sounds like Apple will make it nearly impossible to jailbreak the iPhone with iOS 9 <http://www.businessinsider.com/> By Steven Tweedie 8 hours ago Apple is reportedly working on a new security system for iOS and Mac called "Rootless," which will supposedly prevent malware and make it difficult to jailbreak the iPhone, according to a new report from 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman. <http://9to5mac.com/2015/05/22/ios-9-os-x-10-11-to-bring-quality-focus-smaller-apps-rootless-security-legacy-iphoneipad-support/> In his report, Gurman says that Rootless will be a major new security system that will be baked into both iOS and Mac operating systems. It's designed to protect sensitive files from being tampered with, which could deal "a heavy blow to the jailbreak community." With Rootless, it sounds like Apple will have an easier job discouraging and preventing jailbreaking, preventing "even administrative-level users from being able to access certain protected files on Apple devices," according to Gurman. Since it's these protected files that will likely need to be accessed in order to successfully jailbreak an Apple device, Apple appears to tightening security around these files to lessen the chances of a successful jailbreak from being discovered. Gurman writes that "sources within Apple are particularly enthusiastic" about Rootless, though the hacker community will likely see the new security system as its newest hurdle to overcome. According to the report, Apple is expected to reveal Rootless alongside iOS 9 and Mac OS X 10.11 at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8th. IBM brings business apps to the Apple Watch by Jonathan Vanian <http://fortune.com/author/jonathan-vanian/>@JonathanVanian <https://twitter.com/JonathanVanian> MAY 22, 2015, 6:12 PM EDT IBM launches business-centric applications for the Apple Watch. IBM’s partnership with Apple to bring business-centric applications <http://fortune.com/2014/07/15/apple-and-ibm-partner-to-launch-made-for-business-apps/> to iOS devices continues to grow, this time with support coming <http://9to5mac.com/2015/05/21/apple-watch-ibm-enterprise-apps/> for the Apple Watch. Apple updated its website this week <https://www.apple.com/business/mobile-enterprise-apps/> with new details on a variety of IBM IBM -0.43% <http://fortune.com/company/ibm/>enterprise apps that can now function on Apple’s much-hyped smartwatch <http://fortune.com/2015/03/10/apple-watch-hands-on/>. The apps target the healthcare sector, field-service technicians, and public safety officials. As Fortune’s Stacey Higginbotham reported, the Apple Watch opens up the opportunity for a wide range of business applications <http://fortune.com/2015/04/24/apple-watch-consumer-tech/>. These watches have a lot more to them than just being used as fitness trackers. For example, businesses could use the smartwatches as a way to keep tabs on their employees and, from the data obtained through these devices, use it to discover patterns in how certain teams work with each other. These latest IBM apps don’t seem to be doing anything as complex as data analytics yet, but that doesn’t mean they won’t in the future. 3 Reasons Why Apple Doesn’t Need Friends and Google is Lonely So how does Apple do it? How do they thrive without friends (i.e. a social networking presence) and still be the world’s most valuable company while Google struggles to keep up? Here are three reasons why: 1. Apple has captured more value in mobile than Google because of its controlled ecosystem Steve Jobs had a vision for the iPhone in which Apple retained control of its mobile ecosystem and that vision has resulted in Apple capturing more value than Google’s open Android strategy. 2. Apple has a stronger identity platform than Google their Touch ID platform is setting the precedent with consumers and producers that Apple can handle identity authentication. Furthermore, a consumer’s phone address book is an instantaneous social graph so Apple has the ability to leverage this data along with Touch ID to be a more effective competitor to Facebook than Google can be as far as identity goes. At the moment, Gmail is Google’s only option for a platform identity. As the market steers towards biometric authentication <http://www.forbes.com/sites/aarontilley/2015/03/17/microsoft-windows-10-biometric/>, Google will suffer. While Apple has publicly stated that it won’t compete with Facebook or Twitter <http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-ceo-says-wont-be-going-after-facebook-twitter/> (notice the Google omission) in social networking, its ability to create such a great mobile hardware product with authentication capabilities bodes well for Apple’s prospects in e-commerce, payments, and even advertising. Hear that Google? 3. Apple is working towards becoming the world’s fist omnipresent company Apple has a diverse roster of platform businesses that span from Unknowns to Monopolies as per Applico’s Platform Innovation Matrix <http://www.applicoinc.com/blog/applicos-platform-innovation-matrix/> (see above). Development platform: iOS, OS X, Homekit, Apple Watch, Touch ID Content platform: iTunes, Apple TV and Beats Music Payments platform: Apple pay Such diversity bodes well for Apple’s ambitious future plans. Apple can get by without a social identity platform because it enjoys so many touch points with consumers, as well as the diversity of its platform roster and its tightly-controlled mobile OS and device ecosystem.
