yes,  it is "weird. not having either an iPad nor iPhone, i would be remiss
if i attempted to explain this "mystery".  sounds like it could be an issue
with the OS/iOS handling the IMAP settings, but since it works one way,
should work on all.  perhaps someone in the regional area you/your friend
is in could be of more assist.  sorry.
