Alex, et. al.,

I went out and purchased an Arris SURF board SB6183 when TWC notified us we
would be getting upgraded to the 50Mbps tier. I recommend you BUY a modem and
not rent for 5 dollars a month in perpetuity for one from TWC. My router is an
old one in the middle of the house and works pretty well for living room and
dining area.

We were told we would be getting 50Mbps service on or before May 5. I was
about to go to bed on the 5th and decided to check my speed one more time. I
used Speakeasy. Lo and behold I was getting 55+ Mbps at 2355 hours.

That is now routine for me on a MacBook Pro. Now that is plugged in, not over
WiFi. I have switch and one LAN cable from modem. My iPad Pro on my desk just
got 18.68 Download and 5.29 Upload with a 42ms Ping. But my room is in
concrete block converted garage at the back of the house. Haven’t check it
right by the router.

I had flakey bits BEFORE the upgrade for those days I had the new modem on. It
was the same time each evening, about 2010 +/- 15 minutes and would last from
15-60 minutes then clear up. I figured the node was just being crushed and I
lived with it. Have NOT noticed that since my speed increase.

I am waiting for them to upgrade the service at Hacker Hostel. I’ll get a new
modem there but I have an airport extreme and don’t expect to need to upgrade
that unit.

As for trouble shooting, I hear the usual unplug the modem for 30 seconds… and
also, take off the cable from the modem for 30 seconds. I have no idea why.
