Anne,
In the Photo app, top of page where menu bar is, go to ‘view’; one of the 
selections is ‘hide face names’ (or ‘show face names’). You can toggle that to 
be on or off. I too get ignored when it asks me to name the rock or tree bark. 
Maybe it is seeing ‘shadow people’?
