It over-writes the file three times with 0s and 1s before removing it. You can add srm back into the mix by installing one of the Unix package management systems such as Homebrew or MacPorts. They each make a big selection of standard BSD utilities available. I use MacPorts and it does have srm available, although I’ve not installed it. L^2
