There should be an icon in the menu bar that looks like a squat little person 
of some sort. When you click on it there’s a drop-down menu. If it says 
“Disconnect” near the top of the menu, then you’re connected. When you’re 
connected, the list POPs is greyed out.

These are passwords for various other types of VPN flavors. Just stick with the 
default, Open VPN, unless you have a good reason to do otherwise.

I don’t change anything in the defaults. You can check PIA Mace, if you want 
some ad blocking, but you’ll find a bunch of sites nag you, if you have an ad 
blocker. (That’s how they make their money.) If I find the ads on a site 
annoying, I just stop going there. For example, I’ve stopped visiting Time 
magazine’s site, time.com <http://time.com/>, because of the relentless video 
popups.
