I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna which we take on long trips (about 12 hours). It
doesn’t have bluetooth capabilities. I have a device that looks like a cassette
tape with a wire with a mini plug on the end of the wire. I put the device into
my car’s tape player and put the mini plug into my iPhone. This allows me to
play my music through my car’s radio speakers. With my iPhone six I could
simultaneously charge my iPhone while listening to music or podcasts. With my
iPhone 7 I can use the headphone adaptor dongle with this cassette adaptor to
play my music but when the phones battery runs down I have to charge my iPhone
and can’t play my music through the radio.
I did some searching and found two devices that will allow me to play music on
my iPhone 7 through my car’s speakers.

This device also has a microphone so you can answer phone calls.
I purchased this and it has a couple of flaws. 1. there is an internal
4 hour battery that has to be charged and you can’t
charge the battery while the device is in the car’s cassette deck. (We
travel to Alabama 3 times a year, and listen to
music and pod casts the whole trip) and 2. it’s difficult to eject.
