Hi all, Has anyone tried to run a display (not anything really fancy or mac-specific) by going from the Thunderbolt 3 port on a newer MBP through a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter through a Mini DisplayPort to any of a VGA, DVI, or HDMI display?
Here is why I ask: I already have Mini DisplayPort adapters for each of the 3 display standards which I used with my now-defunct MPB mid-2012. I bought an MPB mid-2017, which has thunderbolt 3 adapters. I was wondering if I could extend the lifetime of my current adapters by sticking in a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter to run from the computer to the old adapter(s). My gut feeling is that this is a bad idea, and I cannot for the life of me figure out if it will work [1] [2]. Still... if it does work, it would save some money and effort. Thanks for any info anyone might have, Bill [1] I know that Apple's adapter will NOT work for this... they say this explicitly. [2] I've read many conflicting reviews, but most are for attaching to an Apple mini DisplayPort monitor... something I don't have and won't need to use. _______________________________________________ MacGroup mailing list Posting address: [email protected] Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/> Answers to questions: <http://erdos.math.louisville.edu/macgroup/>
