Thanks for the recommendation, though I think $154+tax is outside of my budget 
for a cable.

My guess about the problems is that it is simply a change, not necessarily one 
of quality. Many of the changes in HDMI have to do with ever-changing digital 
rights management crap built into the HDMI 'standard' and hardware. I'm sure 
there is some change with standards, but what is so frustrating is that nobody 
but nobody ever really says what HDMI adapter is truly compatible with what 
HDMI input. It's all a messy hodgepodge of 'standards'.
