That is exactly what was happening. I've written and tested a patch that prevents the crash and gives a meaningful error message in this situation. https://github.com/jmkasunich/linuxcnc/commit/aae652ee94f2000e2b9c626723afeb647b856615 I also found a minor typo in the data for P8 pin 6. Apparently nobody noticed because that pin is shared with the MMC interface and rarely or never gets used as GPIO. Because Github considers machinekit to be a fork of linuxcnc, it won't let me have personal forks of both repos.
