I am sure it is solely because we didn't want to have to support kernels
any more, especially when Debian stopped.
There is one pre-built kernel here, if it is not too old.

Never mind...they're pretty ancient. Even my lousy hardware really
needs something newer than 3.0. :-/
I guess it's build my own (or test the 4.6 kernel from backports).
Why not grab the RT kernels from Debian backports? When Ben Hutchins
builds a kernel package, he adds the RT patch if one matches. The RT
kernel package will be ousted from backports when a new kernel comes
along with no RT patch, but it's still around in Debian snapshots; you
just have to look for it. It's highly worthwhile to pull these kernels
out into 3rd-party repos when they come along so they're available to
everybody without having to install backports and even after they
disappear from mainline repos.
