FYI, as I noted to someone else, but off forum, in case this is how it has come about. "The situation described could normally only be encountered where the user has not updated apt-get, but tries to install a later version of a package directly, via dpkg. This results in the dependencies being unable to be met, because the packages known about do not include it."
