Germany began it's experiment with
"gun control" in 1928 as an answer to the escalating political violence in
post-war Germany. The Law on Firearms and Ammunition required anyone
buying a gun or ammo to first obtain a government permit issued by local
law enforcement. A person also had to get a permit to carry a firearm.
People who owned firearms before the law also became known to the
authorities when they obtained permits to purchase ammunition. Perhaps the
most sinister part is the fact that certain classes of people were
prevented from owning firearms at all. Then in December of 1932, the laws
became even more restrictive. Those wishing to purchase firearms or
ammunition now had to provide proof of need in order to receive their
permit. By the time the final gun control law was passed on March 18,
1938, Jews, Communists, Gypsies, and other 'undesirables' were prohibited
from owning any kind of a firearm, truncheon or stabbing weapons. In other
words, if an 'undesirable' person could defend himself or herself with it,
it was forbidden. The Nazi Regime was free to inflict horror on the
defenceless people of Germany. Eventually, the Nazis terrorized most of
the rest of Europe. The final result ... 13 million dead men, women and
children. |
