On mine, the 8 port version, from what I understand, they have some special
allocated memory that will remember the AppleTalk ID of each Mac computer on
the switch. That way when you are sending and getting a lot of files over
AppleTalk, it will remember what computer to send it to with out re-checking
the active ports for each file sent. So, on regular switches it has to check
Ethernet IDs for every file sent then? It is supposed to really speed up
sending tons of small files at one time and eliminate stray pings, etc.
Look around on their web site some more. That special feature was listed in
the specs for mine, and that was what helped me decide to buy it.
