I'm about to install a cable modem, and I have been convinced a
router/firewall is good insurance. I'd appreciate any advice on which brand
and model would be best, although I'm already leaning toward the Asant
FriendlyNET FR3002AL wireless-ready cable/DSL router.

Current installation: a noisy little D-Link 10/100 Ethernet hub connecting a
B&W G3, a Quadra 800 and a LaserWriter Pro 630, plus an HP 952C inkjet
printer USB'd to the G3 I use every day.

Immediate future: cable modem service

Within 9 months: a current model (at the time) G4 desktop in another room,
that I want to linkup wireless to both printers and the Internet (and remove
the Quadra). And maybe someday I could rationalize an iBook that would also
need access to printers and Internet.

So, I want the router to provide a good firewall, replace the current hub,
hook up 2 or 3 computers to 2 printers and the Internet, and allow for
upgrading to wireless within a year. The FR3002AL seems to do all that, for
about $200 plus $160 for the wireless PCI card when I need it. Since it only
has one printer port, how could the second and future Macs access the USB
printer wired to the first Mac?

Any suggestions, especially from personal experience, would be greatly
appreciated!
