that would be my guess, some switches/hubs also have switches to force
10 or 100 bps, as well as full or half duplex, in which case you should
use them to force the speed to 10mbps. i think half duplex should work
wether the particular card is half or full duplex, but i could be wrong,
haven't set up my network yet. many of the 10bt cards won't negotiate
with the hubs/switches since they were made before the standard was
updated. it would definately be good to get the manual if you don't
have it, and to check the manufacturers site in any case, they may be
aware of a problem in which case hopefully they also have a solution.
now if it's a router, i think they have to be configured before anyone
can talk to any one. also, the leds and the electronics that run them
may be independent of the actual switching electronics, so they may
indicate data even if the switch proper doesn't see it, at least i
suspect it can work that way.
